Examples for RAID systems explained:

RAID level version	Minimum quantity of hard drives or SSDs	Failure tolerance	RAID level information
RAID 1	two hard drives	one hard drive	RAID 1 is a group of two or more hard drives. With RAID level 1, the data is stored twice, i.e. on at least two hard drives. This is called data mirroring.
RAID 5	three or more hard drives	one hard drive	If a hard drive fails in RAID 5, the data is at great risk. If another hard drive fails, the data is lost for good. A RAID 5 cannot handle the malfunction of a second hard disk.
RAID 6	four hard drives	up to two hard drives	Unlike RAID 5, dual parity information is calculated and stored, allowing the array to handle the malfunction of up to two hard drives without data loss. The additional fault tolerance comes at the expense of a reduced total storage capacity compared to RAID 5.
RAID 10	four hard drives	see RAID level info	RAID 10 is safe because it stores all data twice or even more. It is also fast because the data is distributed across multiple disks that can be accessed simultaneously. To set up RAID 10, you need at least four physical storage drives and a disk controller that can handle RAID 1 .

Hot spare hard disk explained:

A hot spare hard disk is a hard disk held in reserve (spare) in a system (and it is normally not used). If another disk fails, the hot spare disk is automatically incorporated during operation (hot) in place of the defective one.

Global Spare: A global spare steps in for any suitable hard drive or SSD in a server or storage system.
Dedicated Spare: A global spare steps in for any suitable hard drive or SSD in a server or storage system. A dedicated spare can only step in for a specific RAID set
